Alison’s Professional Bio

As a communications leader and interdisciplinary thinker, I am fascinated by the intersection of regenerative systems, emerging technologies, and the visionary ideas found in science fiction.

I excel at weaving together diverse perspectives to build compelling publications, organizational communication strategies, and reports.

I currently lead communications at Valo Ventures, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm that invests in decarbonization, digitization, and adaptation solutions addressing the impacts of climate change.

Previously, I managed communications at Third Derivative, a climate technology accelerator founded by Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI), where I shaped programs to attract startups and corporate partners to accelerator cohorts. Before joining RMI, I worked as a writer and producer at Singularity University, a pioneering think tank in emerging technology founded by futurist Ray Kurzweil.

Personal Nature Writing Projects

Through nature writing, I explore the beauty of the natural world to encourage others to slow down and truly see our environments and the wonders of nature.

Dear Nature (2024 - present)

My latest project, Dear Nature, is a bi-monthly newsletter for the climate-curious, offering an accessible entry point to explore the plants and natural systems surrounding us. Infused with a touch of mysticism and magical thinking, it aims to inspire readers to consider the soul, not just science, behind protecting our planet. Lately, in Dear Nature, the landscapes of the Southwest and the deserts of California have been my deepest sources of inspiration.

Beautifully Mundane (2022)

In 2022, I published my debut poetry anthology, Beautifully Mundane.

Through brief poetic bursts, this collection captures the subtle beauty I experienced while living and traveling throughout South America from 2018 to 2019.

The poems celebrate the richness that emerges when we slow down and observe the often-overlooked details of our surroundings.

Each piece invites readers to pause, immerse themselves in a moment of the present, and uncover the simple yet profound beauty that lies within it.
